Ferrymans Tavern at the Victoria & Albert Waterfront opened in 1989.
As we all know the live music scene ain’t what it used to be in Cape Town. Gone are the days of 30 music venues for bands. As an agent and lover of music, I am grateful to Ferrymans for providing a space for music in Cape Town.
Ferrymans has nine gigs a week, Monday to Sunday nights as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons. It’s been my privilege and honour for ms events to book the music there for the last three years.

SA Music Sundays on Smile 90.4FM showcases local South African artists exclusively and what a wonderful programme it is.
It is hosted by presenter Dean Friederich, who after receiving his diploma in Professional Acting for Camera from City Varsity Cape Town in 2012, entered the media and entertainment industry appearing in several student films and stage productions.
His radio career started at KFM in 2012. From there Dean joined Afm 91.3 and in 2016 moved to One FM 94.0 – a community station in Tableview. He joined Smile 90.4FM
I was on stage, singing my guts out to a very quiet, but attentive audience. I started to feel insecure and in the back of my mind, I thought “I think I’m going to give this up. Maybe it’s time to quit.”
I looked out at the audience and there was an “older” gentleman who looked me in the eyes and showed me a thumbs-up. When we ended our set, he came up to me and said “You really must love what you do because I see your passion beaming from you”. I think it must have been one of the nicest things someone has said to me and I confessed that I was considering giving up
Shen and his band got a call late on one Sunday evening from an unknown number in Dubai. To his surprise there was a client who wanted ShenFM to perform at their wedding anniversary that following Thursday!
Shen explained that it takes about 3 days to get a Dubai visa so it was cutting it a bit close. Needless to say the visa was in his inbox the following morning. As the band had gigs in Cape Town on Wednesday and Friday, they planned to fly up on Thursday morning and return that very same night, to be ready for Fridays gig back in Cape Town.
