I wish all radio stations in South Africa did this…
SA Music Sundays on Smile 90.4FM showcases local South African artists exclusively and what a wonderful programme it is.
It is hosted by presenter Dean Friederich, who after receiving his diploma in Professional Acting for Camera from City Varsity Cape Town in 2012, entered the media and entertainment industry appearing in several student films and stage productions.
His radio career started at KFM in 2012. From there Dean joined Afm 91.3 and in 2016 moved to One FM 94.0 – a community station in Tableview. He joined Smile 90.4FM in 2017.
Dean hosts SA Music Sundays from 21h00-23h00.
This past Sunday, he interviewed The Sunshines, Greg Schoeman and Skye Wilson.

Many South African music lovers will remember The Sunshines.
Founded in 1993 by Skye Wilson and Gregory John Schoeman, The Sunshines recorded and independently released their debut album “Removeable Tattoos” at Shifty Records in 1994.
Between 1993 and 1997, The Sunshines played most major SA music festivals, gigging countrywide and often sharing the stage with other iconic local 90s bands such as The Springbok Nude Girls, Lithium, Dolly Rockers, Urban Creep, The Usual and Wonderboom.
Rave reviews and packed out shows followed, with the band enjoying considerable success and support from a huge local fan base. During this time, The Sunshines dominated SA’s national and regional airwaves with their contagious, feel-good pop tunes which included the hits “Wanna make love”; “Happy Person” and “Judy”.
Two decades later, The Sunshines are still happy to put out melodic tunes with smart /clever/astute/crafty arrangements and soulful intent.
Keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming live performances and the release of new songs.
