John Ellis

John Ellis is a singer-songwriter originally hailing from Durban, South Africa.

John lead his band Tree63 to international acclaim as that band’s singer, guitar player and award-winning songwriter. Formed in 1997, Tree63 went on to national and international acclaim with hits such as “Treasure”, “A Million Lights” and “Blessed Be Your Name”. After seven studio albums and many years living and touring in the US, John embarked on a solo career in 2010.

As a solo artist, he has been nominated for a SAMA award, and has released five solo albums.

He has lectured English literature at various South African universities, and recently completed his MA in Creative Writing.

John’s latest album “Native”, a collaboration with many traditional South African musicians, was released in 2023.

John relocated to Cape Town a few years ago.

Alongside his solo career (five solo albums), John is also returning to his first love to perform Tree63 material for the first time in over ten years.

Together with Cape Town musicians Deon Knipe and Angus Warden, John will be performing all the songs that made Tree63 so beloved of audiences around the world.
