Cape Town Minstrels

The group consists of 10 members which include a banjo player, a “gummy” (African Drum) player and a trumpeter. None of the band members have had any formal musical training, theirs is a culture passed down from their forefathers, the older members of the Cape Coloured and Malay communities.

Many Members of the group are also members of the popular Cape Malay Choirs, they also often participate in the spectacular and world famous Minstrel Carnival held in January in Cape Town. Their music is happy, upbeat and full of colour and feeling.
